Sometimes our beautiful hometown of Kissimmee gets overshadowed by all that is wonderful about Orlando, especially as newer and bigger attractions are continually added to the big theme parks in the region. Today, however, we want to talk about the small-town friendliness and big-city shops that will make your stay in the Vacation Home Capital of the US one you will never forget! Because everybody knows that a vacation isn’t complete if you haven’t spent at least a few hours exploring the shops in Kissimmee, this guide will make it easy to find the best stores; spend your daylight hours giving your credit cards a workout and your nighttime minutes enjoying all the comforts of home in our Tropical Escapes Vacation Homes Kissimmee properties! Here are the Best Places to Go Shopping in Kissimmee.

Lanier’s Historic Downtown Marketplace, 108 Broadway Avenue

There is just something special about stepping into a shop that sells the past and Lanier’s Historic Downtown Marketplace, while not the normal tourist shopping location, is one shop destined to become your newest obsession. On a rainy day, there is nothing better than slipping into your most comfortable walking shoes and spending a few hours exploring its aisles filled with treasures from the past. Maybe a carousel horse will catch your fancy or perhaps a Disney Collectible will make it in your bag; this shop is filled with all the things you never knew you needed and can now never live without!

The Loop Kissimmee, 3208 John Young Parkway

Although malls seem too exciting from the American landscape, the Loop, an expansive outdoor mall promises to be in it for the long haul! Offering a variety of chain stores that you already love and more than a few specialty shops that will be new to you, the Loop also provides a few restaurants at which you can relax, recharge, and set down all your packages for a good meal! There’s even a movie theater on site that airs all the latest releases, so if there’s a good movie you haven’t seen yet and you need more time off your feet, stop by!

CF Boutique, 217 Broadway

Offering a colorful selection of women’s clothing, shoes, and accessories, CF Boutique is open every day except Sunday and seemingly specializes in finding the most beautiful wares! Reasonably priced, this sweet shop is the perfect place to pick up some new earrings or another pair of sunglasses to help protect your eyes from the harsh rays of the sun. Also offering a selection of accessories imported from Columbia, CF Boutique provides an international flair that every woman will appreciate!

FloridaGifts.Com, 2545 Old Vineland Road

Souvenir shopping is a traditional part of the vacation experience and FloridaGifts.com is quite happy to help you continue the tradition! Their brick-and-mortar star is filled with happy tourists buying something Disney, something kitschy, and something that will help them remember their favorite adventures in Orlando AND Kissimmee. Also featuring a strong online store, if you find something you love but are worried you don’t have the space in your suitcase to lug it all home, you can order it online and have it sent directly to your home! Right now we are simply obsessed with their Davidson of Dundee products, especially their Florida Sunset Jelly; go ahead and give it a try and let us know what you think!

IT’SUGAR, Promenade at Sunset Walk, 3251 Margaritaville Boulevard

Everyone needs a little sweetness in their lives and IT’SUGAR provides all you can handle! This sweet store that sells sweets is a favorite of our own kiddos and if we were to be perfectly honest, a favorite of ours as well! Offering all the classic favorites and a few new candies that we are actually on our way out to try right now; they also sell candy-related apparel allowing people to show off their favorite treats without actually having to share!

Promenade at Sunset Walk, 3251 Margaritaville Boulevard

Since you are already here satisfying your sweet tooth, you may as well take a walk around the Promenade and see all the shops and restaurants that make their home here! Serving as an entertainment mecca, Promenade at Sunset Walk also provides live entertainment and a big-screen theater called Studio Movie Grill, where guests can eat, drink, and watch the latest Marvel release in air-conditioned comfort and joy! Souvenir shoppers will fall in love with the offerings from US Gift Factory and when you are looking for a special gift to bring home to your pet sitter, plant waterer, or mail gatherer, Naples Soap Company has the perfect little something that will express your appreciation!

And then there is Tropical Escape Vacation Homes

When many people think about vacationing in the Orlando area, they believe they can only stay on certain properties to enjoy the full theme park experience. That’s simply not true! We want you to know that you have options and you can save big. We’re redefining vacationing to fit your budget and your schedule. Tropical Escape Vacation Homes provide affordable luxury rentals for any size group looking to experience a new kind of thrilling adventure. But don’t just take our word for it. See the numbers for yourself!

Let’s see the difference in price between three vacation options for the following family – 2 grandparents, 2 parents, and 3 children, staying in Orlando for a week in August before school starts again.

Lodging

While there are certain perks for staying on theme park property (priority access to the parks and attractions; complimentary airport shuttles; and luggage delivery), the price reflects these minor amenities. Our vacation homes rival these hotels in space and luxury by offering you resort-style décor and amenities for a fraction of the price. Many of our homes feature open floor plans, spacious bedrooms to accommodate large groups, multiple bathrooms, full-size washers and dryers, in-home movie theatre and game rooms, private pools, and access to an elite resort clubhouse.

  • Theme Park Resort Hotel: 15,645.38
  • Our Resort Vacation Home: 1,801.00

Theme Park Tickets

Prices listed are for seven 6-day tickets with the option to hop from park-to-park.

  • Theme Park Resort Hotel: 3,412.49
  • Our Resort Vacation Home: 3,402.71

Dining Options

Nobody wants to cook every meal on vacation, but the freedom to do is imperative and can only be offered by staying in a vacation home. As opposed to theme park resorts, in which you’re forced to eat every meal in the parks, all our homes come with a full-size kitchen, equipped with the essentials to help you save money on dining. For those with strict dietary needs, children with strong food preferences, or for anyone looking to eat healthier meal options, a vacation home provides you the freedom to cook what you want, when you want – and still have the option to eat in park or at a local hot spot. *Note: price is an estimate on weekly family size spend on grocery items and dining out budget.

  • Theme Park Resort Hotel: 3,257.75
  • Our Resort Vacation Home: 1,600.00*

Transportation

Aside from airfare, ground transportation is going to be a necessity for having the freedom to vacation on your time, not a theme park’s! The following prices are quoted for a mini-van, seating up 7, for the duration of the week. One priced through the theme park; the other, through our partnered car rental service.

  • Theme Park Resort Hotel: 490.39
  • Our Resort Vacation Home: 469.69

Redefine Your Vacation Infographic

Theme park hotels are charging roughly three times the cost of our vacation homes. You don’t have to sacrifice luxury for affordability. We provide you the vacation you need for the price you want!

Orlando is a really fantastic city. There’s no bigger name in theme parks, and there’s plenty to do besides with all of our shopping, restaurants, and other tourist attractions! But there’s another great part about Orlando: our neighbors! If you’re visiting Orlando and taking a nice relaxing week in one of our fabulous rentals, then try visiting some of these towns near Orlando. These daytrips from Orlando can add excitement and enrichment to your vacation that so many Orlando tourists too often miss!

Cape Canaveral

Cape Canaveral— the name sounds like “Carnival,” and the city’s just as fun as one! Just take Highway 528 straight east for about 50-65 minutes, and you’re there! We recommend this area if you’re a big fan of the ocean—if you head to the eastern edge of the city, you’ll see there’s no land in sight for hundreds of miles: perfect for that spectacular sunrise!

While you’re here, there’s plenty to fill up a day! The Brevard Zoo is home to plenty of animals and features its own “Australia Loop.” The planetarium is a great place to go not only to learn about space, but also to enjoy a thrilling lightshow! Perhaps the most fantastic attraction is the Kennedy Space Center. NASA itself hosts this complex of tours, attractions, and memorabilia surrounding America’s proud tradition of space exploration. If you’re planning a trip to Orlando, head to https://www.kennedyspacecenter.com/ and look at the countdown—you may even be able to schedule your visit to coincide with a rocket launch, visible from the center!

Apopka

Maybe you’re more a fan of nature than outer space? While Orlando’s zoo boasts a huge variety of animals, it isn’t quite the same as seeing them in their natural habitat—good thing Orlando’s neighbors have you covered! Apopka stands just 12 miles northwest of Orlando, and beyond it lies Lake Apopka North Shore, home of the Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive. The drive is a great place to view all sorts of birds. Plus, the area boasts several trailheads, making it a great pilgrimage for hikers!

Kissimmee

Head straight south to reach the town of Kissimmee. Generally best known for being near Orlando, there’s a few fun things in Kissimmee worth checking out! Capitalizing on the long history of human settlement in the area, Kissimmee Ghost Tours are a great way to get a good scare over the weekend—they’re open on weekends, making them great alternatives to Orlando theme parks’ busiest days. While there, check out the Museum of Military History and learn how the life of a soldier has changed as war has transformed. Freedom isn’t free, but tickets to learn about the struggle for it are $7 or less, making it a nice low-budget addition to a day trip. The last attraction might be unexpected: a rodeo! The Kissimmee Sports Arena Rodeo hosts what they call “The Greatest Show on Dirt.” Check it out if you’re in the mood for a real spectacle!

Reach all these from an Orlando Home!

These attractions are all just a short drive from Orlando, Florida—why not get a great deal on a week-long rental and see them all? Call 1-866-409-8598 and start setting up your ideal Florida vacation rental!

The city of Orlando has plenty to offer besides Disney and the nearby NASA Station. While these two attractions are certainly bringing in the bulk of tourists for the region, there are plenty of other historical attractions in Orlando. Travel back to a time when Central Florida was largely orange groves and swamps by visiting these historical attractions.

Orange County Regional History Center – 65 E Central Blvd – Orlando, FL

Located in the heart of downtown Orlando, the Orange County Regional History Center is a four-story historic courthouse building and home to four floors of museum exhibits. The museum is a Smithsonian affiliate and prides itself on being the go-to source of history in Central Florida. History can be fun at the Center too; come join fellow history buffs and test your brain during Retro Game Night.

Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art – 445 N Park Ave – Winter Park, FL

The Morse Museum is considered a hidden gem amongst museum lovers in Florida. The museum is home to the largest collection of Louis Comfort Tiffany in the world. There are also comprehensive exhibits for American pottery, late-19th- and early 20th-century American paintings. Beautiful downtown Winter Park is the perfect location for this chic art museum.

Winter Park Scenic/Historical Boat Tour – 312 E Morse Blvd – Winter Park, FL

Don’t forget to take a scenic boat tour while in Winter Park. An 18-passenger pontoon boat gently carries you along Winter Park’s chain of lakes. Tour guides will inform you of all the history behind the lakes and the surrounding region as you meander through the pristine waters. The ride is $14.00 per adult, and $7.00 for children aged 2-11 years old. Groups of ten or more will have to reserve a spot, and they only accept cash or check.

Fort Christmas Historical Park – 1300 N Fort Christmas Rd – Christmas, FL

Fort Christmas is a bit of a drive from downtown Orlando – about 30 minutes – but well worth the trek for history lovers. The park is home to the replica fort of one built in 1837 during the Second Seminole War. There are also eight pioneer homes, a schoolhouse, a sugar cane mill and other historical farming equipment. Group and school tours are available year-round. There’s also something going on at the Park; prospective visitors should visit Fort Christmas’ website to see if there are any festivals or reenactments on the upcoming schedule.

Between its fantastic weather, plethora of thrilling theme parks, and bustling downtown atmosphere, Orlando, Florida is the place to be this Halloween! Here, you’ll find events ranging from elaborate parades hosted by amusement park giants like Disney and Universal Studios to local haunted houses and block parties. Read on to learn more about where to go for the best Orlando Halloween events!

Orlando Weather and Events for Halloween 2016

During this fun and horrifying holiday weekend, Orlando will experience mild temperatures of highs in the low-to-mid 80s and lows in the mid-to-high 60s, with only a few clouds to add some spookiness to the otherwise pleasant atmosphere. While you’re enjoying the weather, you can check out these local events and celebrate Halloween the Orlando way!

Halloween at the Theme Parks

Having won awards for their terrifying displays, Universal Orlando continues the tradition of Halloween Horror Nights, where the park becomes flooded with hordes of monsters, mutants, and more. There are haunted houses, scare zones, and live shows to complement the extreme thrills of the rides here.

Meanwhile Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is the ultimate trick-or-treating destination, with the entire World Magic Kingdom Park transforming into the best neighborhood ever! Guests can dress up in their Halloween costumes and go trick-or-treating, in addition to meeting Disney characters (who are also in their Halloween costumes, of course) and watching the Mickey’s Boo-To-You Halloween Parade and the HallowWishes fireworks display.

SeaWorld and LEGOLAND also have wonderful Halloween celebrations to offer. SeaWorld’s Halloween Spooktacular allows guests to trick-or-treat in the park and find hidden and spooky sea treasures throughout, while LEGOLAND Florida’s Brick or Treat has a fun scavenger hunt, trick-or-treating, costume contests, and the largest LEGO Jack-O-Lantern in the world.

Other Halloween Events in Downtown Orlando and Beyond

The outdoor trails of scares, live music, and more known as A Petrified Forest immerses guests in the dark world of twisted fairytales, with its final day on Saturday, October 29th.

On Friday the 28th and Saturday the 29th, there will also be dozens of nightclub dance parties and pub crawls, such as Eden Bar’s Halloween Party on Saturday, making it easy to leave off on planning and just roll with the moment when you head to downtown Orlando!

The Haunted Sanford Historical Ghost Walk brings the mysterious history of downtown Sanford to life on the 28th in a tour that’s fun for the whole family, while Make-A-Wish is hosting the family-friendly GUTS Pumpkin Carving Competition on the 29th where there will be ample activities, trick-or-treating, live music, a raffle, a silent auction, and live pumpkin carving in the Milk District.

Disney World—so much magic encapsulated into two small words. But for many parents hoping for a vacation, and for many millennials looking for a getaway with friends, these words also carry the hollow, yet heavy weight of an empty wallet. Don’t be discouraged, though; there are plenty of ways to save on a Disney World vacation on your trip to the Magic Kingdom.

Search for Special Offers

Like all businesses, Disney has its high seasons and its low seasons—and it will try to make the most out of its low seasons with special deals. Head over to https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/special-offers/ to find what kind of bargain you can take advantage of! It’s true, though, that many special offers have certain stipulations in order to use them. This means that you’re more likely to find something that suits you if you’re pretty flexible with your timetables and room conditions.

Watch What You Order

Theme park food is notorious for disrupting all dreams of having an accurate vacation-cost estimate, and Disney is no exception. While we can’t lower the costs of food for you, we do have two pieces of advice. First, recognize that many orders are automatically made into combos. However, you can order many items à la carte, skipping the sides to save a few bucks here and there. Secondly, curb your soda cravings. Many people in the U.S. are accustomed to three sodas per day, but this can run you an extra $10 per person in the park.

Bring Your Own Stroller

It’s possible to find a cheap, portable, fold-up stroller for just $25 or $30—outside of the park, that is. If you forget one, the park will rent them to you for $15 per day. These strollers are not collapsible however, which makes them cumbersome when your youngster wants to stretch their legs or when you sit to eat. If you’re going for more than one day, invest in a stroller.

What’s in Your Wallet?

If you use your credit card often—responsibly, we hope—you may have racked up some reward points. Look into your rewards program and see if any of these points can be put toward your vacation. Even if none of them can be used for free tickets, see if they can be used elsewhere to cut the vacation’s overall cost, such as airfare, car rental, groceries, and the like.

Don’t Stay with Disney

Second only to perhaps number one on this list, this advice will make the biggest budget difference. While “value” rooms in Disney hotels can cost as little as $85 per night in September and January, they can run upwards of $180 per night during the summer—and this is for the cheapest, bare-bones room.

Instead, look around for a place to rent! Check out Tropical Escape Vacation Homes’ many luxurious condos and simpler abodes—not only can our prices rival those of Disney’s, they also get you way more bang for your buck! If you’re going to spend over $100 or $150 per night on lodging, why not spend it on a place where everyone gets their own room and you don’t need to share your pool? If you check out Disney’s deals and ours, we think you’ll find there’s a strong argument that not staying in a Disney hotel might be the best option for a Disney vacation!

You’re in luck! Whether you’ve had your getaway to tropical Orlando, Florida planned for months or you’ve just been itching for an impromptu trip before school starts up again, Tropical Escape Vacation Homes has the inside scoop on some awesome upcoming events that are being hosted in Orlando over the course of the next week. Take advantage of these summer-exclusive events when you’re staying in your beautiful Orlando, Florida next week!

August 7th – 13th – Watch the Rio Olympics in Enormous HD

Next week at 5:00pm daily, NBC Sports Grill & Brew will be holding live broadcasts of the 2016 Olympics in Rio on a huge one-hundred foot HD outdoor stadium screen at Universal CityWalk. Enjoy a selection of classic American food from the restaurant’s menu while you watch the Olympics unfold before your eyes, with stilt-walkers performing during the Opening Ceremony.

August 7th – Visit SeaWorld for the Last Day of the Summer of Mako

SeaWorld just got a new rollercoaster, and its name is Mako! The tallest, longest, and fastest roller coaster in Orlando, Mako stands two hundred feet high and travels seventy-three miles per hour on a track that is nearly one mile in length. The coaster is inspired by the shark species named Mako—one of the fastest sharks in the ocean. As an added bonus to this coaster, this is the last day for special events like the Shark Touch Pool, the Mako Challenge scavenger hunt, and limited-time in-park specials.

August 7th – Enjoy Tropical Reggae from Daddy Yankee and Don Omar

These legendary reggaeton kings face off against one another at the Amway Center, continuing the battle that began in Puerto Rico during December 2015 and made music history in Las Vegas as the MGM Grand’s first reggae concert. Tickets are available online.

August 11th – Wine and Dine in Style at Tapa Toro Tapas Bar or Sample Craft Brews at Artegon Marketplace’s Beer and Wine Stroll

Here, we listed two options as one, since they both take place on the same day, with overlapping times.

Tapa Toro’s event allows foodies to get up close and personal with the restaurant’s top chefs, indulging in a decadent five-course menu and tasting the finest imported Spanish wine at $49 per person before tax and tips.

If that price is a little more than what you’re looking for, you can always take advantage of Artegon Marketplace’s Beer and Wine Stroll, during which you can sample Florida’s best craft brews and wines for free and discounted prices on food.

August 13th – Catch Motion City Soundtrack’s “So Long, Farewell” Tour

Musical phenomenon Motion City Soundtrack will be performing their last tour ever, stopping at the House of Blues in Orlando. With a career spanning almost twenty years, this pop punk band has brought joy to music listeners all over the U.S. You won’t want to miss this opportunity to see them in concert while you still can! Tickets can be purchased online.

It’s summer time, and for one special week you have no deadlines, no responsibilities, no boss looking over your shoulder, and you are spending that time in glorious Orlando, Florida! The down side is it is summer time and the temperatures are smoldering, the air feels heavy and wet, and you are finding it difficult to muster enthusiasm about anything; the heat has zapped you good! Fortunately for you, we have lived here almost our whole lives and we know all the secrets to staying chill and still managing to have an awesome time! Wet & Wild Waterpark

Nothing keeps you cooler than a lightning fast trip down a six story slide, and Der Zuka at Wet & Wild is our favorite way of beating the heat! If that’s a little frightening for you or younger family members, don’t worry, Wet & Wild has many other water slides and water rides for the enjoyment of your entire family! Located at 6200 International Drive.

The Mall at Millennia

Stay chill while you shop till you drop at our favorite upscale shopping mall located at 4200 Conroy Road. Armani, Salvatore Ferragamo, and Prada are just a few of the cool stores waiting for your credit card at the Mall at Millennia. And for the more budget conscious, our Orlando Premium Outlets located at 4951 International Drive offers designer everything at bargain prices!

The Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art

Participating in indoor activities is a great way to stay cool during the dog days of summer, and the Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art will keep you occupied for hours at a time! Located at 445 N Park Avenue in nearby Winter Park, this is THE place to view the works of Louis Comfort Tiffany!

Teals Twisted Bliss Ice Cream, Italian Ice & Gelati

Eating ice cream in the summer is a rite of passage, and there is no better time to eat really good ice cream than when on vacation! Teals Twisted Bliss is award winning and delicious! We recommend the black raspberry and vanilla gelati, but we are pretty sure you will love it all! Located at 1807 North Orange Avenue.

Night Shopping at Audubon Park Community Market

Located at 1842 Winter Park Road, this farmers market offers outdoor shopping at night on Mondays!
